Is an AI companion app more useful when it asks questions or when it mostly listens?

I’ve noticed that when an AI companion asks thoughtful, well-timed questions, it helps me slow down and reflect more clearly on what I’m actually thinking or feeling. At the same time, too many questions can break the flow and make the interaction feel scripted or pushy, almost like an interview instead of a conversation. The best experiences come from apps that mostly listen first, then gently nudge with a question only when it adds clarity or direction.
